We Were No Strangers

2024 / mini-DV transferred to digital video with sound / 28 minutes

In We Were No Strangers we embark on a drive that takes us backwards. The film is a portrait of an unseen relative. Shot with a camera strapped to the back of a bicycle, we trace the lines of an internal map; constructing a situation of familiarity as the route repeats and folds back on itself. A circling narration of a diary entry about a conversation is layered with (mis)rememberings of how things actually took place. This voice coupled with our monotonous cruising, places us in the strange enchanting loop of being stuck in a memory.
